The Court of Audit consists of a college of 12 magistrates, assisted by civil servants.
The college
The Court of Audit is divided into two chambers, one French speaking and one Dutch speaking - each consisting of a president, four councilors ("conseillers" or "raadsheren") and a registrar ("greffier" or "griffier"). The senior of the two presidents is designated "Premier Président" or "Eerste Voorzitter" and the senior of the two registrars "Greffier en chef" or "Hoofdgriffier".
All members of the Court of Audit are elected by the House of Representatives for terms of six years and can be reappointed.
The salaries and retirement pensions of the members of the Court of Audit are established by law.
To ensure that the members of the Court of Audit act independently and impartially, the legislative body has made up a list of activities prohibited or incompatible with their function.
The Court of Audit is in session all year round.
